Drilling & Blasting

Bucyrus has announced the introduction of a new Rotary Bit Change Carousel and Forked Pipe Wrench for its 49 Series of rotary blasthole drills, part of the company’s EDGE Technology range. The tools are available for both new drills and as a retrofit for existing 49 Series machines.

The fully automated Auto Bit Change Carousel allows up to four drill bit changes to be conducted remotely from the operator’s cab, reducing the typical change over time from 60 to 10 minutes, and increasing productivity by 83%. In addition, the Carousel reduces safety lifting hazards, and eliminates the need for drill operators to work under a suspended load.

The Forked Pipe Wrench simplifies pipe unthreading during the drill bit change-out process and reduces the safety risks associated with drill pipe assembly and disassembly. The wrench works by engaging the drill pipe flats, and rotating and impacting the stop block to create a break in the pipe thread joint.
