Russian manufacturer of heavy mining equipment OMZ, has announced that its EKG-1500R shovel prototype, manufactured for Kuzbassrazrezugol OJSC has successfully passed the approval testing conducted at Taldinsky open cast coal mine in Kuzbass.

The prototype was produced by IZ-KARTEX, part of the OMZ Group and is the first model of a new range to undergo testing. The shovel weighs 675t and features an 18m3 capacity bucket. The operator cabin is ergonomically designed with temperature regulators, large windows for an enhanced field of vision and an information diagnostics system. This provides automated reports on extracted ore, production time, power consumption, and data on the performance of the machines electrical and mechanical components.

The shovel was tested over a period of six months in accordance with a program and method specified by the customer, and under these conditions the shovel demonstrated a high level of reliability with monthly productivity exceeding 400,000m3 of ore. All parameters of the prototype have shown to correspond with the requirements of the technical specification.

Sergei Paramonov, technical director of Kuzbassrazrezugol, confirmed that the shovel has successfully passed testing and has recommended the EKG-1500R for commercial production.
