Redpath Australia, part of Canada's Redpath Group, has won one of Australia's largest contract-mining assignments. The group has been awarded a three-year contract by Copper Mines of Tasmania, a subsidiary of Vedanta, for mine development and construction at the Mt Lyell operation in Tasmania.
The contract involves the employment of almost 200 people, and will involve 9,900m of haulage development and 8.1Mt of ore production utilising sublevel caving (with decline access and shaft haulage).
Redpath Australia's CEO, Gordon Shannon noted that recent contracts have "helped to further secure our presence in Australia in a relatively short time. It is the result of great effort from all involved in identifying, assessing, tendering, winning, recruiting and mobilising."
The Redpath Group is active in North and South America, Asia and Africa, with projects in Canada, the US, Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. The Australian subsidiary was formed in October 2008 (with an office in Queensland) and opened an office in Perth in 2009.
