RIO Tinto and Atlas Copco have announced an alliance to work together to develop autonomous drilling solutions for surface mining. Huge crawler bucket-wheel excavator goes up for sale

ONE of the world`s largest mining and earth-moving machines a Demag HD800 crawler bucket-wheel excavator is to be sold in an upcoming unreserved public auction. Ritchie Bros Auctioneers an industrial equipment auctioneer will conduct the proceedings at its Fort Worth Texas auction site on Thursday December 4 and the machine will go to the highest bidder regardless of price. Full story...

Outotec signs for Miheevsky project

OUTOTEC has signed a major contract with ZAO Miheevsky GOK a subsidiary of Russian Copper Co for the design and delivery of a concentrator plant for the Miheevsky porphyry-copper project in Chelyabinsk Russia. The contract value exceeds €175 million. Russian Copper will implement the construction of the Miheevsky mine based on project financing. Full story...

Terex debuts SK-L rig

THE Terex Reedrill SK-L rotary blasthole drill made its debut at MINExpo. The model’s 20m single-pass mast is designed for strutless 30° angle drilling and multi-pass hole depths of up to 65m. Boart reveals 4200 surface drill

BOART Longyear’s new 4200 surface exploration drill targeted at the 1 200m NQ market was released at the show having been referenced for the first time in September’s Mining Magazine in an interview with the company’s global product manager for capital equipment Craig Mayman. The rig has a maximum torque of 6 953Nm and a hoist capacity of 9 071kg (20 000lb). Full story...

Caterpillar’s new electric drive

AFTER years of monitoring industry developments Caterpillar concluded in 2004 that the time was right to develop Caterpillar electric-drive trucks. And while expected this was its most significant news at the show. After four years of development and thousands of hours of testing the new trucks – 793F AC and 795F AC – were finally unveiled the larger of which is a completely new size class for Caterpillar which will allow it to compete directly with the Komatsu 930E and Hitachi EH5000. Full story...

P&H unveils new IPCC system

IN SURFACE products P&H Mining opted to launch its new IPCC solution at MINExpo which was first mentioned in the March issue of Mining Magazine when the system was still under development. Bucyrus revolutionises electric rope shovels with HydraCrowd

ONE of the technological highlights debuting at MINExpo was Bucyrus’s revolutionary HydraCrowd technology for electric rope shovels. The hydraulic crowd replaces rack-and-pinion and rope crowds in electric shovels and according to Bucyrus this provides “much higher availability productivity and reliability” while extending the maintenance interval to two years. With this technological innovation Bucyrus claims that the customer’s bottom line can be boosted by up to US$120 million. Full story...
