Record UK coal truck order for Terex

In one of the largest haul-truck deals in the UK in recent years, Scottish Coal is taking delivery of 32 91t-payload Terex TR100 models. The company recently received the first 16 of these machines at its Pennyvenie open-cast coal mine in Ayrshire, Scotland. Normet acquires Chile-based Semmco, moving operations over to Santiago

Normet Group, a Finnish manufacturer of mining and tunnelling equipment, has announced the acquisition of Chile-based Semmco Group, which produceds vehicles for underground construction and mining. New Sandvik fleet for PotashCorp

Sandvik Mining and Construction has signed an agreement with PotashCorp, Canada, to supply a fleet of Sandvik MF420 Borer Miners to the Piccadilly underground potash mine. This is the company's largest, single order for the soft-rock mining business to date. Full story...

Nickel Ore

Nickel: Calling the bottom

Even by its own volatile standards, nickel has had a remarkable past 40 months (see graph). The metal rose to an all-time high of US$51,600/t in May 2007, before falling away to US$26,300/t by the end of the year. Nickel improved to US$33,200/t in early March this year before slumping to just US$9,350/t in mid-October. The metal had recovered to over US$12,000/t as Mining Magazine went to press. Full story...
