ABB has been awarded a contract worth over US$28m for the Mount Milligan copper-gold project owned by Vancouver based miner Terrane Metals. ABB will provide power and technology solutions to help optimise energy use and equipment reliability in the operation's grinding circuit.

The contract includes the supply of a complete 22MW gearless mill drive for a 12m SAG mill, and the delivery of two dual pinion mill drives for a pair of 6.5MW, 8m ball mills, both of which will be powered by variable speed drives. ABB will also supply motors, transformers, synchronisers and electrics for the circuit.

The delivery is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2011, followed by start-up of the mine and mill in 2012.
