Caterpillar has reported that it has received Tier 4 interim certification from the US EPA for non-road use of its new Cat C13 ACERT and C15 ACERT engines. These engines feature integrated design and provide improved fuel efficiency and productivity for next generation machines.

These engines are the latest to receive certification in the 130-560kW power category. They add to certification for the C9.3 ACERT engine families and collectively will power a number of Caterpillar products relevant to mining including  mid-range track-type tractors, motor graders and hydraulic excavators.

It is projected that Caterpillar will accumulate nearly one million hours of testing on Tier 4 Interim//Stage IIIB engines and machines by the end of 2010.
