Reuters has reported that Freeport McMoRan's Cerro Verde copper mine in Peru, is scheduled  to reopen its molybdenum plant this September after closure in the June quarter due to the global financial crisis and low prices.

Cerro Verde produced around 1,339t of molybdenum last year, and processes on average 120,000t of copper concentrates and 80,000t of copper cathodes each year.

Freeport also plans to make improvements to Cerro Verde’s copper leaching equipment. The investment of US$200 million will allow leaching operations to continue for another eight to 10 years.
