CiDRA Minerals Processing Inc. has announced that it has been awarded its third expansion contract to supply SONARtrac process monitoring systems to Antofagasta Minerals’ Minera Los Pelambres copper mine in Chile. The contract was awarded by the EPCM contractor, Bechtel Chile Ltda.

SONARtrac flowmeters utilise non-intrusive, sonar-based monitoring systems which can be maintained and installed during pipe replacement. The technology is competent in a variety of ores, and enables the measurement of both single and multiphase fluids, as well as slurries, with a high level of accuracy and performance.

The SONARtrac systems at Los Pelambres will provide volumetric flow measurements on slurry lines within the concentrator plant as part of the ‘Repower 2 Project’ scheduled for completion in 2010. The project is designed to increase the capacity of the mine's concentrator from 132,000t to 159,000t per day.
