Cobham, a leading provider of wireless digital video, audio and data transmission systems, will introduce its new underground communication system at the Mines & Money 2009 exhibition in London, December 2009. The system is a secure, robust, wireless network, capable of transporting high-quality video and audio data to and from underground and surface operations.

In April this year, Cobham was invited by AngloGold Ashanti to test its equipment at the Moab Khotsong mine in Free State, SA. A one Watt transmitter, placed at the bottom of the main shaft, 3.2Km below ground, succeeded in transmitting high quality video footage directly to a portable receiver positioned at the mine head, a feat that had not previously been achieved at AngloGold Ashanti’s operations.
