Codelco expands Liebherr truck fleet

Liebherr has announced that it will deliver seven T 282 B diesel electric, AC drive mining trucks to Codelco’s Radomiro Tomic mine later this year. Radomiro Tomic is an open pit mine producing oxidized copper ore and has been in operation since 1995. The mine is located at 3,000m above sea level in the Andes Mountains, approximately 1,670km from Santiago, Chile.

The 363t payload, ultra class trucks will be equipped with MTU/DDC 20V4000 diesel engines rated at 3,650hp and Michelin 56/80R63 low profile tyres. The trucks are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2009. The order will take the total number of Liebherr trucks in the Codelco Norte Division to 48; 30 trucks at Chuquicamata and 18 trucks at Radomiro Tomic.
