Crown provides water treatment for Coeur Palmarejo

Coeur D’Alene Mines has awarded the contract for a new water treatment plant at the Coeur Palmarejo gold and silver mine in Mexico to Crown Solutions, a Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies company.

Crown will supply the initial equipment for the plant which is due to be commissioned in mid-2011. The project aims to improve the internal water balance in a sustainable solution so that water can be recycled from the tailings pond back to the mill.

The treatment plant will include two trains of ACTIFLO clarifier and Hydrotech Discfilter. The process also includes chemical feed systems and mixing/reaction tanks. The treatment solution accomplishes residual cyanide destruction, total suspended solids and metals removal and filtration for water that is recycled back to the mill.

The Palmarejo Mine will also utilize the services of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies Mexico for operational support.

Hard rock HERO from Fordia

The new HERO 11 diamond core bit from Fordia is specially designed for use on very hard to extremely hard ground types.

The HERO 11 delivers an extremely sharp matrix and is ideal for ground consisting of basalt, felsic or volcanic rock, commonly found in the South American and Australian markets. The HERO 11 comes with a 13mm diamond impregnation height and offers an outstanding penetration/lifetime ratio. In a single thrust, it responds with more bite than a lower-level matrix.

The HERO 11 is the latest addition to Fordia’s HERO range. This consists of three core bits that that cover ground types with a hardness of 3.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. All the core bits are made with the same unitary furnacing process to ensure tool consistency.

Following tests in Australia, Charlie Younger, Manager of Fordia’s three outlets in Australia said: “Clients will be glad to hear about the launch of this new matrix, which takes on the hardest ground types without hesitation.
