The Geological Society of South Africa is hosting a workshop on advanced drilling methods and techniques in exploration and mining on July 28-30.

The two-day course will be held in Rustenburg, South Africa and will be followed by a one-day trip to a nearby mining project.

The course is aimed at practicing professionals involved with all aspects of diamond drilling exploration programmes, as well as surface and underground mining projects.

The programme will include a detailed review of all aspects of diamond drilling, including directional drilling techniques, special procedures and economic and contractual aspects of drilling. Participants will receive printed course notes, plus a CD and a copy of “The Diamond Drilling Handbook” by Dr WF Heinz.

In the past the course has attracted more than 400 geologists and other professionals from countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Russia. It was first launched in 2005.
