Uralmash’s crawler-mounted quarry excavator EKG-18 has been put into pilot operation at the Kuzbassrazrezugol coal company’s Krasnobrodsky open-pit coal mine in the Kemerovo region of Russia.

The EKG-18 has an 18 m3 bucket and is the first machine of this series produced at OMZ's Uralmash plant. Before the pilot operation commenced, the machine systems, units and assemblies were checked for serviceability and underwent 72 hours of trial tests. The machine will also be subject to extensive supervision during the six months of the pilot operation.

The EKG-18 is an update of the earlier EKG-1500P, and has several improvements such as an AC drive that allows a considerable reduction of operating and energy costs, increased power of the hoist and crowd drives, increased load-carrying capacity and up-to-date control and monitoring systems.
