Vermeer is to supply 14 Terrain Leveler surface excavation machines (SEMs) to Fortescue Mining Group in Western Australia.

The SEMs allow mines to utilise precision surface mining — meaning mine operators can selectively extract mineral seams in surface mining applications. Operators can also control material sizing, producing small-sized material in a uniform configuration so minerals can be handled more efficiently than product produced by drilling and blasting.

Fortescue already has several Vermeer surface miners in operation at its Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mines.
