Australian mining service and equipment provider, Industrea Ltd. has announced that it has won a A$20m contract to supply Chinese miner, Shenhua Energy Company Ltd. with some of the world's largest and most advanced long wall mining equipment for Shendong underground coal mine. The company expects the groundbreaking deal to open up new opportunities in Russia, India and Australia in the near future.
Industrea managing director and CEO, Robin Levison, explained that the contract includes the delivery of some of the world’s largest flame-proof carriers, comprising six 80t longwall roof support carriers and one 130t shearer carrier, to Shendong mine in Shaanxi Province.
“Shendong Mine is developing one of the world’s largest long walls at its coal reserves in Shaanxi Province, and they have chosen Industrea’s equipment due to its superior design, speed and safety performance,” Mr Levison said. “The size and complexity of the new Australian-built equipment represents a material advance in underground coal mining, and follows two years of planning and product development. The equipment will allow the mine’s 7.3m coal seam to be mined in a single pass, thereby producing significant gains in productivity and efficiency."
This deal adds to the A$100m of new contracts that Industrea has secured since July 2008, most of which are for the Chinese underground coal industry.
