Intertek opens minerals lab in Queensland

Intertek Genalysis has opened a new mineral testing laboratory in Queensland, Australia, to serve the region's mining and exploration sector. The Townsville mineral lab has expertise in minerals related chemical analysis, geochemistry, fire assay and other related specialities, and is expected to employ around 50 people when operating at full capacity.

Intertek offers sample preparation and analytical testing services for various metals, including gold, nickel, copper and base metals, and is well placed to meet the testing and assay needs of Queensland's large minerals production and exploration sector. Numerous mines, including several of the world's most significant hard rock mines, operate in the region.

John Fowler, global minerals manager for Intertek, said "The Intertek Genalysis Laboratory in Townsville provides crucial mineral assay services to this major mining industry hub, and is an ideal location to service clients in Queensland and the Asia-Pacific region. This new laboratory expands the coverage the Intertek Genalysis group within Australia complimenting our Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Kalgoorlie and Port Headland facilities."
