Nexans, a leading expert in the cable industry, has been awarded a major contract to supply power, control and instrumentation cables from its specialised POWERMINE range for CHINALCO’s new Toromocho open-pit copper mine in Peru.

In cooperation with Anixter USA (its distribution partner for this project) Nexans is providing more than 1,200km of cables to Aker/Jacobs Engineering, the turnkey EPC contractor for the mine, which is scheduled to begin production in 2012.

At Toromocho, Nexans cables will power surface mine equipment, including conveyor belts, lighting, power for various buildings, crushers and a maintenance concentrator.

Nexans facility in Canada is supplying 1,000km of power, control and instrumentation cables of the type THNN, XHHW, Ultra-VN, Ultrex-XL and Firex. These comply with US Type National Electric Code (NEC) specifications. Nexans Chile is also supplying 200km of 5kV and 15kV medium-voltage (MV) flexible rubber jacketed power cables.

Delivery of the cables began in August and will be completed by the end of 2012.
