Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies has won a ten year contract to operate and maintain the water treatment plant at Wheal Jane mine in Cornwall, UK.
Veolia will be working for the UK Coal Authority which has recently taken over the role of client from the Environment Agency.
Wheal Jane mine was closed in 1991. In 1992 a release of mine water into Carnon River and Falmouth Bay due to a faulty plug in the underground Nangiles adit forced the EA to find a long-term treatment solution for the water. As a result, a bespoke treatment plant was designed and constructed to meet the stringent discharge limits.
