Voltas has confirmed that its engineering products and services business has scored a breakthrough order to supply mining equipment to Hindustan Zinc Ltd, as well as securing a five year maintenance and repair contract worth approximately US$43 million.
The order consists of three Terex O&K RH 340B excavators, equipped with 34m3 buckets, which will be commissioned by September 2009 at the Rampura Agucha open cast coal mines in Rajasthan.
Terex explained to MM that two of the machines are already on their way to the customer, with the third expected to follow soon.
The excavators were chosen for their ability to provide a high level of productivity and low cost per ton, in spite of the initial capital cost. The availability of Voltas' service support was also a key factor, as was the confidence quotient in Terex O&K's product performance.
