The order comes after SciDev conducted technical evaluations of MaxiFlox last year. At Las Bambas, it will be used in the operation's tailings thickener with the aim of improving water recovery and increasing the tailings storage facility's available volumes.

Lewis Utting, SciDev managing director and CEO, said the MMG transaction is its first foray into the South American copper sector.

"With both water and available land at a premium in the region, SciDev's technology could add value to our customers," he added. "We are pleased that our chemistries are continuing to be recognised and trialled by global leading companies such as MMG Limited."

SciDev did not outline plans with the miner should the commercial trial be successful.

Las Bambas produces 400,000t/y of copper and has an expected mine life of 20 years.
