The 2025 Automation and Digitalisation Insights report provides a comprehensive snapshot of how mining companies and investors are adopting, deploying and evaluating new technologies.
We surveyed 188 mining professions, including operators, investors and METS providers about the real choices companies are making, beyond the headlines.
The findings highlight an industry that is committed to innovation, but also constrained by knowledge gaps, cost pressures and uneven regional momentum.
A sizable part of the industry is struggling to keep up with the pace of technological growth and think that the pace of change is less than fast, suggesting a deeper structural challenge in the industry.
Methodology:
Mining IQ’s Technology Survey 2025 was conducted in August and September and sent to about 100,000 clients of Mining Magazine and sister Aspermont publications. Questions focused on the pace of advances in mining technology and the deployment and success to date of key technologies, including automation, AI and transportation, plus views about their future role in mining. The survey was completed by 188 sector professionals from mining equipment, technology and services providers, mining and exploration companies, investment firms and others.
The Profiles section showcases 10 mining companies leading in automation and digitisation. Based on conversations with companies, each profile highlights key projects, progress made and lessons learnt, offering real-world examples of how digital and automated solutions are reshaping mining operations across the globe.
