Commissioning and factory acceptance testing has begun on Nautilus Minerals’ third and final seafloor production tool (SPT) for the Solwara 1 mining project in Papua New Guinea. The auxiliary cutter is being put through its paces at Soil Machine Dynamics’ facility at Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

The cutter weighs in at 250t when fully assembled. It is a preparatory machine that deals with rough terrain and creates benches for the other SPTs to work on.
