PRESS RELEASE: The first of the new standard features is an angle limitation system to prevent the truck body from tipping over when it is being loaded with materials. This new function is incorporated as standard on all ADTs manufactured after January 1, 2017, and is also available if requested by customers as a software update for all ‘-5’ machines produced before that date.
In the new angle limitation function, a tip limit point can be set to meet the requirements of the machine owner. This allows the body to tip in accordance with the slope of the ground as set by the system. Based on a study of the customer’s application, Doosan can provide recommended limits for the company’s trucks, but it is up to the owner to decide which limits they want to use. If the slope is over the limit, the angle limitation system ensures the body does not move. The function therefore offers increased safety and efficiency as the operator always knows the machine will be in a stable position.
Auto shut down
Another new standard feature of the ADT range is the engine auto shut down function. ADTs can spend between 30% and 60% of their time standing with the engine idling while they are waiting to be loaded. In some conditions the waiting time can exceed 60%, with consequent losses in terms of fuel, warranty and service costs. In order to reduce these costs, Doosan has introduced the auto shut down function which can be switched on and off by the operator on the display.
Using the system, the operator can set a time after which the engine will automatically shut down if the computer does not detect any activity in the machine. This function is incorporated in all new Doosan ADTs and is available upon customers’ requests as a software update for machines produced before January 1, 2017.
Transmission oil levels are among the most complicated features to monitor but ensuring they are maintained at the correct levels is very important for keeping equipment in good shape and is crucial for extending the lifetime of machines and their proper functioning. All new Doosan ADTs are now equipped with an electronic transmission oil level sensor (instead of a dipstick system) which will make oil level checks a much simpler and more reliable process to carry out.
Similar to those available in the automotive industry, Bluetooth radios are now a standard feature of all Doosan ADTs and bring with them an improvement in safety levels. For an extra cost, buyers of Doosan ADTs can also choose the alternative of radios with the DAB+ function.
The Geofence system offers a new level of protection by ensuring the machine cannot leave a prescribed area. This is part of the machine software and can be set up using a Doosan ADT diagnostic tool. Using the diagnostics, it is possible to adjust the Geofence boundaries and choose a speed limitation level (from 1-50km/h, it is not possible to choose 0km/h for safety reasons). The speed limitation is activated 15 seconds after the machine crosses the boundaries of the area pre-set in the Geofence system. It is available from the factory on new Doosan Stage IV compliant DA30-5 and DA40-5 ADTs.
For easier transportation, Doosan has developed a new roof beacon design with a quick release latch to enable operator to prepare the machine for transport in just a few seconds without the use of any additional tools.
The new options for the Doosan ADT range include electrically adjustable, heated mirrors. Available as an option on DA series Doosan ADTs sold in Europe, the previous heated mirrors have now been replaced by the new optional electrically adjustable, heated mirrors which will allow the operator to adjust the position of the mirrors directly from the cab.
To meet strict safety rules demanded on some sites, Doosan customers can now order new Sears high performance heated seats. The new seats can be supplied with a choice of three different kinds of seat belt with a two-, three- or four-point design.
The rear position and direction lights on Doosan ADTs are now LED lights as standard, whilst the work lights, main lights and even the roof light bar are also available in optional LED versions. As well as improving visibility, the LED systems have longer lifetimes. Safety can also be increased by the additional hand rails for service and maintenance work that can now be installed on both the DA30-5 and DA40-5 ADTs.
A new protection system for the rear lights avoids damaging the lights when reversing and is particularly useful in very tough applications. There is also the option of a blue or orange flashing rear light which is activated when in reverse gear and works simultaneously with the reverse lights. This is designed to be an excellent additional warning device, especially when working in the dark or on very noisy work sites where normal reverse signals may be not heard. This feature is a mandatory requirement on some sites and is a very popular feature in the UK.
White noise reverse alarm
An optional white noise reverse alarm can also be installed as a replacement for the standard reverse alarm. The characteristic sound of this alarm is not only easier on the ears but can offer increased safety on noisy job sites. To confirm that the driver is using their seat belt properly, there is also an optional green seat belt roof warning light available that can be placed on the cab roof.
The optional electrical refuelling pump may be useful on some job sites as is the air inlet pre-cleaner, which complements the standard high performance three-step cyclonic air filter in Doosan ADTs, particularly in very dusty areas where the increased amount of dust can cause shorter air filter lifetimes.
As a final option, the availability of a new pre-assembly painting system allows Doosan ADT customers to customise their ADTs and specify particular colours if they wish to match them to their existing fleets.
The design of the Doosan DA30-5 and DA40-5 ADTs goes far beyond just meeting the latest emission standards and incorporates many additional features and product improvements to establish a unique benchmark in load carrying performance, fuel efficiency, enhanced controllability and high operator comfort, together with improved reliability, durability and reduced maintenance and servicing costs.
As standard, all Doosan ADTs feature an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulation. This together with a free-swinging rear tandem bogie ensures equal distribution of weight to each wheel and guarantees permanent six-wheel contact and drive for equal power distribution and excellent performance on difficult terrain. Collectively, the forward turning point, the unique tandem bogie and the sloping rear frame results in ‘best in class’ rough and soft terrain capabilities and avoids the need for electronic aids such as traction control.
‘Best-in-class’ fuel consumption
The ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption of the DA30-5 and DA40-5 ADTs is down to a combination of features including Scania Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (ECR) diesel engines and a ZF EP transmission, improving the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels for outstanding traction. When this is coupled with the enhanced rear differential system which reduces engine rpm and further increases machine durability, customers are ensured of an improved cost per tonne carried with the Doosan ADT range.
The Doosan DA30-5 and DA40-5 ADTs are powered by Scania DC9 276kW and DC13 368kW diesel engines, respectively, meeting the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emission regulations through the use of both SCR and EGR technologies, with an electronic engine brake system, one of four brake systems on the trucks. The Stage IV/Tier 4 Final ADTs do not need a diesel particle filter (DPF) to meet the emission regulations.
Specifically designed by ZF for use on ADTs, the ZF EP countershaft transmission provides eight forward speeds [with a top speed of 55km/h] and four reverse speeds. In the DA30-5 and DA40-5 models, the front differential is mounted directly onto the transmission, so there is no driveline that needs greasing and reducing the overall length of the machine for better weight distribution and a tighter turning circle. With smaller equal gear steps between gears, and a higher overall gear spread (eight forward gears), the transmission works optimally with the engine for better fuel efficiency.
