The ControlMaster Teleremote solutions were installed on a Cat D11T dozer and a Cat 390D hydraulic excavator, which can now be controlled remotely in areas that are unsafe for machine operators.

The equipment is being used at Teck's open-pit, truck-and-shovel Coal Mountain Operations.

As this was the first instance of installing the system on a Cat 390D hydraulic excavator, RCT's Custom department played a crucial part in the project.

Smart technology company RCT's VP of business development for Canada, Vern Deveau, said the solutions provided to Teck met the client's requirements.

RCT also integrated a communication network into Teck's existing wireless network to facilitate the remote functions of the machines.

The project and training were delivered ahead of schedule with positive feedback received from Teck staff on site, RCT said.

Its Ontario branch will provide Teck with customer support and servicing going forward.

Teck is also assessing the viability of implementing the same technology at other operations.
