Nornickel to invest $82M in polar fleet

Russian producer Nornickel will spend R6 billion (US$82 million) in 2021 on 79 units for its Polar Division's mining operations fleet, bringing its strength to over 600 pieces of equipment.

The company has ordered 21 units of new machinery this year, while 58 units of various type and purpose are already due to be delivered by the year-end.

"This surge in investment is due to the purchase of unique cutting-edge machinery", said the company, noting that most of the new machinery will go to Komsomolsky , with 27 units.

Taimyrsky will receive 18 units, Oktyabrsky 14 units, Skalisty 13 units and Mayak 7 units.

In 2020, the division's mining facilities received 79 units at a cost of R2.7 billion.
