Mayfair Gold mulls BEV fleet for Fenn-Gib

Canadian producer Mayfair Gold said the environmental and commercial case for using battery electric vehicles at its planned Fenn-Gib gold mine is “strongly compelling”.

Mayfair Gold mulls BEV fleet for Fenn-Gib

Mayfair said an entire mobile fleet based on battery electric or fuel cell electric motors could cost 20% less than comparable diesel vehicles, with maintenance costs reduced up to 30%, and fuel costs reduced up to 60%.

The fleet plans fit with the company's objective of making Fenn-Gib Canada's first carbon-neutral gold project.

Mayfair said this week it will appoint a sustainability advisor to record carbon emissions at Fenn-Gib and the impact of the limited land clearing for the project.

This will enable it to design appropriate offsets for the duration of the project's exploration phase.

Mayfair will also look to tap into a major Ontario hydropower line traversing the 4,800 ha Fenn-Gib property - as a voltage transformer station is located at Ramore, a short distance to the southwest of Fenn-Gib.

"Our vision is for Fenn-Gib to become Canada's first net zero carbon gold project. Our commitment starts immediately during the project's exploration phase and will continue as we embark on the pre-feasibility study in early 2022 for the initial mine design," said Mayfair Gold President and CEO Patrick Evans.

Fenn-Gib has a resource of 70,203,723 indicated tonnes grading 0.921 gram gold per tonne.
