Vancouver-based Fortuna Silver Mines has reported a fatality at its Lindero silver mine in Salta, Argentina.

The accident occurred at the conveyor stacking system.

The heap leach pad has been suspended for a 48-hour period while local authorities investigate the accident.

The mine has been suspended for a one-day safety stop, Fortuna said.

Fortuna last reported an operations-related worker fatality at its San Jose gold-silver mine in Oaxaca, Mexico. The accident involved a scooptram operating underground, resulting in the fatality of the driver.

The company's Caylloma silver mine in Peru shut down for two weeks in July 2020 due to the death of a contracted worker there.

Though the worker had tested negative for COVID-19, the mine opted to shut down the mine and disinfect workspaces.
