The milestone of first gold pour at Malachite Resources' Lorena gold mine in northwest Queensland, Australia, was met at the end of March.

Company officials noted that the pour primarily originated from lower grade ore processed in the first instance, as the plant's processes and recoveries were being optimised for steady state production. However, higher grade processing has since commenced at the plant.

In fact, production of gold is now projected to be seen on a regular basis, and mining and processing is continuing according to schedule.

"We are delighted to have achieved this significant step in the development of the Lorena gold project and to have also achieved gold producer status' for the first time since listing on the ASX," chairman Terry Cuthbertson said.

Open-cut Lorena, which is expected to produce approximately 30,000 to 35,000 ounces in its 18 months of production, is located east of Cloncurry. Malachite has a 55% joint venture interest in the project.
