The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the top authority for global conformity of electrical and electronic technologies, and IECEx is its certification system showing compliance to standards for use in explosive atmospheres.

Matrix partnered with Northern Light Technologies (NLT) for the manufacturing, distribution and service of IntelliZone as part of its effort to acquire the approval and expand its presence into Australia.

"NLT has a proven track record of providing leading-edge solutions to the Australian mining industry, creating a natural partnership opportunity for Matrix," Matrix president David Clardy said. "This approval will allow us to immediately proceed with new installations."

Matrix, a subsidiary of US coal mining company Alliance Resource Partners, originally introduced the proximity system to the American industry in 2009.
