Upgrades at the ready in Carlson Mining 2020

US software maker Carlson has introduced option upgrades, functionality enhancements and new tools to its newest release for mine design, Carlson Mining 2020

The software is able to run on with AutoCAD 2015-2020 and has IntelliCAD 9.2 on-board. Its variogram features numerous updates, including the ability to process multiple strata and attributes at one time.

In addition, it has data point composting, cross variable geostatistical analysis with cross variograms, a method to auto-fit model variograms, and output lag results.

The system's Block Model Viewer can let a user view a legend of grade names and assigned colours, and grade parameters can be switched to view blocks coloured by a different attribute - without having to exit the command. New grade parameters can also be defined by attribute value range.

Another tool, Surface Equipment Timing, has received several upgrades with the 3-D pick tool. Users can now define attribute equations to display on the charts and have access to tooltip settings that show values, automatic tracking of non-key tonnage and even an undo button.

Speed has also been improved, giving a user the power to make a pit assignment within a few seconds, even with as many as 35,000 pit blocks, Carlson Software said.

"There are new commands to create solid models including by grade from a block model and by 3-D triangulation from a cloud of points," the company said, adding that a new option will create a solid using a Carlson surface object to provide better performance.

"The new solid-by-section model uses a series of slices through a model to make edits."

Carlson Mining 2020 has also added a Settings Migration Wizard tool for transferring Carlson and CAD settings between previous versions of Carlson software.

"Carlson Mining 2020 provides dozens of new updates to the various modules, enhancing block modelling, variograms, mining solids with improved 3-D viewing and rendering, design and scheduling," vice president Grant Wenker said.

"These additions further expand the capabilities of the Carlson Mining Suite, linking the office software closer to the Carlson Laser Measurement and Machine Control solutions."

Carlson Mining 2020 is available now. It requires a 64-bit computer.

In addition to Carlson Mining 2020, the company is also releasing 2020 versions of Carlson Survey, Carlson Civil, Carlson GIS and Carlson Hydrology.
