The title is designed to inform and assist mine management with decisions on mining techniques and technologies, as well as issues affecting their workforce, logistics and supply chains.
The Editorial Team
Carly Leonida, Editor-in-chief at Mining Magazine, Senior Analyst for MM Intelligence
Carly has led the Mining Magazine team since 2011 and also works across Aspermont's Intelligence products as a senior analyst. She holds a first-class degree in geology and geography, specialising in hydrothermal mineralisation and the resulting geology that fuelled the mining industry in Cornwall, UK.
Carly has also served as editor of GeoDrilling International, and contributing editor at World Tunnelling and Trenchless World magazines during her career. She first joined Aspermont as Mining Magazine's assistant editor in 2008, and has written articles for various other titles including Mining Journal and Australia's Mining Monthly.
Ailbhe Goodbody, Editor
Ailbhe became the editor of Mining Magazine in November 2018. She joined the team at Mining Magazine as assistant editor in July 2011, and was promoted to deputy editor in March 2015. She also did two stints as acting editor while the previous editor was on maternity leave.
Ailbhe graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 2009 with a BA (Mod) degree in geology, and from Imperial College London in 2010 with an MSc in science communication.
Nia Kajastie, Online Editor
Nia became the online editor of Mining Magazine in May 2018. She originally joined Aspermont Media in August 2013 as the editor of GeoDrilling International, and also took on the role of assistant editor at MM in January 2016. She holds a BA in journalism and news media & creative writing, and speaks fluent Finnish and German.
Donna Schmidt, Senior Reporter
Donna, a member of the mining trade publication circle since 2005, joined the Mining Magazine team in August 2017. She previously reported for sister Aspermont publications American Longwall Magazine, Coal USA Magazine (now discontinued) and International Longwall News (now part of Australia's Mining Monthly) for nearly nine years.
Based in the US, Donna holds a BS in print media communications from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and earned her MS in communications and information systems from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.
Jax Jacobsen, Contributor
Jax is a long-time mining journalist and regular contributor to Mining Magazine. She was previously S&P Global Market Intelligence's Canada mining correspondent from 2013-16. Her work has also appeared in CIM Magazine, Natural Resources Magazine, New Statesman and the Montreal Gazette, among other publications. She lives near Paris, and speaks English and French.
