Freeport-McMoRan Americas president and CEO Red Conger said joining the CORESafety circle was a “natural progression” for its safety programme efforts after being certified for years under OHSAS 18001.
“At Freeport-McMoRan, we have a deep commitment to safe production and a strong belief every job and every task can be performed safely,” Conger said.
“A safety management system using CORESafety will help assure we have a systematic and repeatable approach to safe production. Ultimately, that means employees work safely and return home to their families at the end of each shift.”
Predictive Safety conducted the independent audit for Freeport-McMoRan.
According to the NMA, since the voluntary safety initiative’s inception in 2011, participants have reduced fatalities by 74%.
The last CORESafety certification was earned in August by Dyno Nobel.
CORESafety is a partnership led by the members of the NMA. It’s an approach to mining safety and health to prevent accidents before they happen using a management system that involves leadership, management and assurance.
