Ericsson has partnered with Dutch tech firm Here Technologies to provide location services for mining operations.

The two companies announced their collaboration at the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas.

Ericsson is providing private cellular networks for mining projects; combined with the Here technology, mining companies will be able to build custom maps of open pit projects.

These custom maps will increase worker safety as well as efficiency, Here said. Mining companies can use the mapping service to search, track and deploy routing.

"We are partnering with Here because of the breadth of their location services - ranging from mapping to routing, positioning and asset tracking," Ericsson vice president Thomas Noren said.
