NRW to put Eliwana on the rails

Australian contractor NRW Holdings has been formally awarded the stage one contract for developing the railway at Fortescue’s future Eliwana iron ore mine in the Pilbara region

Fortescue’s Eliwana iron ore project

The A$62-million (US$44.4-million) deal, first announced at the end of 2018 after the Eliwana project was approved, will include earthworks, roadworks and drainage works.

Neither company disclosed a start date or specific timeline for the work.

Eliwana, which has an estimated annual production of 170 million tonnes over two decades, should be in production by late next year.
