Outotec adds to grinding product line

Outotec has added to its grinding product line with the Mill Equipment Transporter (MET) and Tube Mill Reline Machine (Tube MRM), both with features that can reduce downtime for mines while also protecting users.

The MET, a mobile unit for transporting loads such as feed chutes, has independently driven wheels and rear steering that is independently controlled. With the ability to make turns on the spot the unit's tires distribute the load and all four wheels remain in contact with the machine's deck.

It features built-in safety systems so loads are kept at the rated capacity, all while it monitors the load's center of gravity for stability. Status and system alerts can be viewed on a multiple language display.

The MET can operate in smaller mill deck designs than traditional feed chute transporters.

"Outotec's mill reline equipment product range is built on a drive to innovate in relining safety and technology and the MET is a great example of this - its novel steering system and suite of safety features will enable new levels of safety, efficiency and convenience in feed-chute transportation," grinding business line technical product manager Jared Le Cras said.

The other new addition, the Tube MRM, has a compact design for use in smaller ball and SAG mills. It keeps the required mill opening size to a minimum but retains the open area that is usable for liner delivery. It is built on a three-axis hydraulic crane support, giving a user the most stable lifting experience and reducing time lost from mill inching.

"The high capacity crane streamlines the relining process by allowing large liner designs, while the simple tube support structure decreases both maintenance requirements and machine cost due to the reduced number of moving components," Outotec said.

The Tube MRM's safety features include rated capacity limiting and installation monitoring, remote-control operation and hydraulic spool monitoring.

"Historically, smaller-diameter grinding mills have been relined by hand or with a limited-capacity mast-type handler or other makeshift arrangement," grinding business line product management director Bjorn Nielsen said.

"[This] design provides the safety and speed of a conventional reline machine at an optimal price point for small to medium-sized mills."
