Vancouver-based Western Magnesium said that it has completed the commissioning of an environmentally friendly continuous pilot reactor, and it is ready to accept feed.

The company is aiming to produce magnesium by using a continuous silicothermic process to produce magnesium, which reduces labour and energy costs.

The new reactor will be used for its commercial pilot plant in southern British Columbia, as well as for its 100,000 metric tonne commercial plant to be built in eastern Ohio. Western Magnesium expects to begin construction of the eastern Ohio plant within the next year and a half.

Work on the company's commercial pilot plant is currently underway, the company said. The commercial pilot plant will produce magnesium products for companies which are negotiating with Western Magnesium for purchase and joint venture agreements, the company said.
