The LTE infrastructure, the company said, is part of an investment initiative to give the operation a modern, secured infrastructure., and digitise its processes for greater efficiency.

Under the project, called Comilog 2020, field staff will be given ruggedized tablets and smartphones. Its ultimate goal is to increase the mine's capacity.

JRC will provide the LTE infrastructure for subscribers and four RF sites, while GEKA Telecom will provide the full services.

"Projects such as Comilog 2020 are crucial for us. We aim to grow our private LTE/5G business significantly in the EMEA region," said JRC 5G project general manager Sato Katsuhiko.

"The proposed LTE infrastructure is designed to meet mission-critical environment and performance. GEKA Telecom will provide its expertise for the settings of the network and the installation."

Comilog, which is part of Eramet SA, is one of the world's largest producers of high-grade manganese ore.
