The State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) said that idling the operations, none of which will be in coal, will reduce China’s workplace accidents and fatalities by 15%.

The effort will also include assistance to mining operators to establish safety systems, as well establishing a mine site check database and information platform, mine rescue team improvements, changes in investigation report availability and enforcing stricter regulations.

According to state-run news agency Xinhua, China’s workplace accident rate dropped during the January-July period, down 24.7% year-on-year to 27,478. Fatalities during the same period fell 16.8% to 19,783.
