In 2020, more than 100 coal mining accidents were reported, the report said.

The checks will start this week and will extend through the end of 2021.

The evaluations will focus on infrastructure, risk prevention management and response and rescue capabilities. Inspectors will also crack down on miners operating beyond planned and approved capacities.

In a statement last week, China's national coal mine safety authorities said they would be boosting scrutiny over safety checks by local government authorities, the report added.

The new campaign, according to Reuters, should continue to tighten fuel supply limits and negate coal production expansions amid coal import reduction efforts.
