One user is coal miner Knight Hawk Coal LLC which operates in southern Illinois. Dale Winter production superintendent said the flexibility of battery face haulage is an advantage as it gives the mine the ability to operate three to five haulers behind the continuous miner based on the distance from the feeder breaker. This is particularly useful when driving deep rooms off sections and perimeter mining.
