The electric version of the SBU 8000 is equipped with a battery that has been developed in collaboration with Epiroc

Jama has replaced the diesel engine of the SBU 8000 with a 160 KiloWatt electric motor and rebuilt the entire driveline.

The SBU 8000E's engine is powered by a battery manufactured by Northvolt, and supplied by Epiroc via its "Batteries as a Service" offering.

The scaling machine's battery and driveline solution were developed in collaboration with Epiroc, and provide the same power as in the diesel-powered scaler, added Jama.

A modular solution was used so each individual part of the battery can be monitored and checked separately.

"The future is here and the SBU 8000E is our first contribution," said Rickard Lindgren, chief executive of Jama.

"[The vehicle is] an important step on the road to fossil-free mining. It feels enormously inspiring from a technical, environmental, and industrial perspective."

The battery system was developed specifically for the mining industry's extreme demands on safety and robustness, added the Jama statement.

It also complies with EU directives on electromagnetic compatibility, voltages and radio equipment.
