Strata strengthens product range with Burrell deal

Under the deal's terms, Strata will promote and distribute the Burrell Can and Burrell Omega Block products for coal mining to the North American market. Both are available now.

The Can, a yieldable secondary roof support, is constructed with a confined core of cementitious composite encased in a cylindrical steel canister.

"When installed correctly, the Can has never failed," Burrell officials claimed. Its design can also be engineered to meet mine-specific load conditions regardless of roof or floor conditions, while the Can's smooth steel skin improves ventilation by reducing air resistance.

Specially formulated non-toxic building blocks Omega Blocks are three times the size of regular concrete blocks, but are significantly lighter in weight to reduce labour and the installation process. Federally approved, they are fire resistant, impermeable to air, and are made of incombustible materials.

"Working together, we [Strata and Burrell] can provide customers throughout North America with efficient and safer secondary roof-support products for the mining industry," Burrell CEO Bob Weil said.

Burrell Mining International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Burrell Group.
