Chariot, a transitional energy company, has signed a partnership with Total Eren, a French renewable energy independent power producer (IPP), for the long-term development of wind and solar projects for mining cities in Africa.

According to the companies, the agreement will begin on 1 January 2022 and will last for three years with the option to extend for a further two years. Chariot will have the right to invest 15-49% into the co-developed projects, and the partners will look to collaborate on other non-mining energy initiatives.

Fabienne Demol, executive vice-president and global head of business development at Total Eren, said the agreement would address the energy needs of African mining companies.

Adonis Pouroulis, acting chief executive officer of Chariot, said the partnership will provide "clean, sustainable and more competitive energy to operational mines in Africa."

Furthermore, Pouroulis described the African mining industry as a "market of significant scale, largely untapped," where Chariot's management has "high-level networks."
