Vancouver-based Ero Copper has reported two fatalities at two separate operations in Brazil.

One incident occurred at the MCSA Mining Complex last week, while the second incident took place at Ero's NX Gold mine on Jan. 17.

No additional personnel were injured in these incidents.

Ero Copper shut down both operations to investigate the incidents. The MCSA Mining Complex has since been reopened and has resumed mining and milling operations.

NX Gold remains suspended and is expected to be reopened on Jan. 19.

Ero Copper posted zero fatalities in 2021.

Global mining deaths fell, according to the most recent statistics collected by the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). For 2020, member companies reported only 44 deaths, a decline from the 287 deaths recorded in 2019.

Most of the 2019 deaths occurred in the collapse of Vale's tailings dam in Brumadinho.

These statistics only include deaths recorded by ICMM's 35 member companies, which include Rio Tinto, BHP, and Anglo American.

The national mining association of Brazil (IBRAM) has not responded to requests for comment on the Ero Copper fatalities.
