The facility will be located inside the company's office in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will be designed to apply the latest data science and artificial intelligence technology in real time to aid companies in finding answers to the hardest analytical difficulties.

Specifically, Accenture said the studio will bring together the leading data science capabilities of its Accenture Applied Intelligence division with the expertise of its mining industry group to provide local and global clients deep mining expertise access.

In order to scale the capabilities of the studio rapidly, the company is recruiting data scientists with engineering and mining experience.

"They will join Accenture Applied Intelligence's global team of more than 3,000 data scientists and work collaboratively with our global digital and local Accenture teams to deliver digital solutions to address the mining sector's unique challenges as well as priorities. This work will help ensure operational efficiencies, worker safety and reduce environmental harm," Applied Intelligence and data science lead for Africa Caroline Belrose said.

"Volatile commodity prices, rising input costs and changing global demand for commodities require mining companies to rethink their strategies and business models to remain competitive," senior managing director Rachael Bartels added.

"They are increasingly looking to apply advanced analytics to reimagine processes, unlock trapped value and drive operational excellence in their businesses today and position themselves for growth tomorrow."

The studio is expected to open next month.
