McConnell Dowell officials said that it would be working with BMA and design engineer Aurecon "in an integrated project delivery environment" with the aim of design optimisation, so that the project, due for completion in 2023, could be executed efficiently.

The firm's scope of work includes constructability input, advice and preparatory work for construction. Specifically, it will be helping with facility design, construction execution planning, and estimating and planning assistance.

The entire SABR project at Hay Point is made up of a complete replacement of one of the three berths and ship loaders. The facility's wharf and ship loader have reached the end of their lifespans and are being replaced; the upgrades will also improve operability via a berth extension and storm immunity through raising the berth.
