The system will use 72,000 rollers, featuring 220mm diameter composite centre rolls specifically designed for BHP to reduce power draw, CPS Conveyors said in a statement. The system also uses around 24,000 separate conveyor frames.
"This represents one of the most advanced, reliable and cost-efficient overland conveyors in the world," said Matt Einhorn, CPS chief financial officer. "This is the culmination of more than three years of collaboration with BHP and the single largest project undertaken by our business."
South Flank is set to be the largest iron ore processing facility ever built in Western Australia. It will include an 80-million-ton-per-year crushing and screening plant and rail-loading facilities.
