Epiroc wins Codelco contract

The Codelco order includes underground loaders, face drill rigs, rock bolting rigs and mine trucks, as well as ongoing technical and training support over several years.

Codelco will use the Epiroc equipment as it transforms Chuquicamata from being the world's largest openpit mine into an underground operation.

The machines to be supplied include the Scooptram ST1030 and ST18 loaders, the Boomer S2 face drilling rig and the Boltec M bolting machine. It also includes the Minetruck MT65 with recently added Stage V-compliant engine which dramatically lowers emissions.

The control packs include the Rig Control System, which makes the equipment ready for automation and remote control, and the Certiq system for intelligent monitoring of machine performance.

"Epiroc was chosen because it complied with all the technical, safety and performance requirements that Codelco demanded for the Chuquicamata Underground mine project," said Juan Mariscal, sourcing category manager at Codelco.
