The facility will be based in Neerabup, north of Perth, has been designed to support research and development and also accelerate the adoption and implementation of technology.

Total costs or a timeline were not specified.

Amira Global CEO Jacqui Coombes said the test facility will be vital in the development of research to integrate industry 6.0 technologies for the future of mining. It will form part of the 94-hectare (232.2 acre) Neerabup Automation and Robotics Precinct, an Amira initiative.

"This will have benefits for all Australians. With the government recognising the need for the test facility it enables Amira to fast-track the first stage of the test facility to help mining companies during the COVID-19 crisis," he said.

The nonprofit independent Amira Global represents global resource industry members that seek to "enhance, sustain and deliver transformational research and development" as well as innovation for the industry's future.
